Want to see Tony given another chance! What even is the deal with Solly, is he wanting to come back to the national side?
The higher you go the cooler it becomes.

First game is supposed to be tomorrow so no doubt everyone involved has been notified.
The usual favorites I assume.
The only surprise I think will be Curran. That announcement that he's was finally back was a clear indication that something was stinky

It's will be very interesting to see who plays in the regional games. Perhaps a good indication as to who is in the selection conversation. Like always ZC is is quite on who has actually made it to the training squad.

If the Welch brothers aren't in this regional squad it'll be a very clear indication as to who is preferred over who. Madhevere has done sweet FA for god knows how long now, both internationally and domestically.
I can guarantee Maruma will be in this squad based on his recent half century

Well Matthew Welch is injured so he won't be.sloandog wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 10:36 amIf the Welch brothers aren't in this regional squad it'll be a very clear indication as to who is preferred over who. Madhevere has done sweet FA for god knows how long now, both internationally and domestically.

When was the last time Nick Welch scored any runs in 50 over List A cricket?

He scored a lone 50 against SA emerging, that's more than enough for everyone elsezimfan1 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 10:48 amWell Matthew Welch is injured so he won't be.sloandog wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 10:36 amIf the Welch brothers aren't in this regional squad it'll be a very clear indication as to who is preferred over who. It's old ground, but are they deciding 50 over runs are important now that NW is short of them?
If he can make a Zim A/emerging side but can't make a regional side that's weird. Ditto MW. I think he'll do fine on one leg
How many runs does he need in 50 over to get a look in? Over what period? A year, two years?
Nearly everyone is short of runs in internationals, but they keep getting picked, and the runs they make in domestic don't EVER seem to make any of them any better. The few international runs dont EVER seem to help either. That's the critical part that they keep ignoring.
We'll see it again for the 25th year in a row.
Who at the end of these 3 series will have gone up a notch because they've nearly all had enough opportunities now, barring Dion.
It boils down to trying guys out that have potential to do well internationally if they want to find players that can potentially move us forward. The list of players that won't ever ever make any impact at international level is long.
I'm not suggesting he's done enough to make the national side, but to not make a regional side tells you that some players will have to deal in centuries whilst others can deal in thirties. I'm sure it will happen over the next year or so, but it's time wasted, and it's not just time wasted for some guys earning nothing, but it's time wasted for Zim cricket, but of course they don't really care. Answerable to nobody.
In the meantime whilst these regionals are going on its an ideal opportunity to get Houghton to work with the less talented guys like MW, NW and anyone else that got passed over to see if he can make them slightly less shit? He's doing fuck all, they're doing fuck all, it's a perfect time for Houghton to be able to tell ZC- these guys are shit, get rid of them, or these guys are good, let them play the next regionals
It's starting to look like they're hoping Houghton will just die or go away as well.
The other thing that needs to be brought back is a couple of warm up games for touring sides against the President's XI or the Singo XI so we can get a free look at fringe guys, except Roy, we've seen him for years.
Re: Northerns vs Southerns | List A | 14 and 16 November 2024
That’s a fair point. Struggling to remember the last time Mnangagwa’s Select XI got a run out. South Africa A about three years ago when Tiripano brought it home with the assistance of messers Duckworth and Lewis is the last time I can think of. Vaguely remember Takashinga (?) being the opposition for somebody’s warm ups more recently than that.
Houghton is firmly in Rajput territory now; big money for nothing basically. He’s likeable though so no problem for me.
Ya Curran is on the radar. So far he’s doing okay too, wouldn’t say he’s got credit in the bank by any means but he’s shown enough collateral to secure a loan from the bank of ZC.
No idea where Munyonga stands these days, he just seemed to fall out of favour without doing too much wrong. There’s been worse guys kept their place anyway.

What ever did happen to the concept of warm up games. They really did give fringe players a chance to get a feel of the next level. All touring sides just seem to be in a hurry to get in and out after the tour. Zimbabwe does have a sh*t load of games over the next year or so and it will be difficult to keep picking the same players if they just continue failing. The absence of players like Kaia, Prince does create room for ZC to have a close look at other players. They basically don't hv any much of an option. As it stands Burl is injured and a replacement is needed but its difficult to even say who will be given a chance.
