Re: Introductions

Hi everyone

I'm a Zimbabwe fan based in Australia, I have some links to the country but my support primarily derives from always going for the underdog. My first memory of Zimbabwe playing was during the 2000/01 Carlton and United Series in Australia, and my fondest memories include when they defended 138 against the West Indies at the SCG, along with their test victory over Bangladesh upon readmission. I'd mention the worst heartbreaks, but as we know, there are too many to mention! I also have an interest in the country at large and try and follow what's going on and hope for the best. I've also just started blogging about politics and sport (normally separately) if anyone wanted me to post a link to check out my very amateur journalism :)

Welcome to ZCF. I have fond memories of that game too, and something of a similar story in Zim support.

Hi all,
I just thought I would introduce myself. I've been a long time reader of this forum, and now have finally decided to sign in, and participate! I'm based in England, but have been an avid Zimbabwe cricket fan for a long time, probably since they played in the 1992 world cup in their superb red kit, and then when they got test stautus soon after.
I loved the way they punched above their weight, and were so dynamic in the field. Been a fan and avid follower ever since. Desperately sad to see how things went downhill both in Zimbabwe's cricket, and in the country as a whole, particulary during the infamous player boycott around 2004.
Things appear at least to be a bit better now....though absolutely chocked to see BT going to Notts ( though understandable).
I play club cricket here in England, initially in Berkshire ( a few zim's on the local circuit there now), but have now moved north to Lincolnshire, where my club, Spalding Town CC had Campbell Light as an overseas player a few seasons back.
Cheers,
Robbo

Welcome Robbo. Feel free to dive right in and post your preferred first XI somewhere; it's become a bit of a tradition on this forum :P

New to this forum, but been reading it for a long time.
My favourite Zimbabwe XI be:
V.Sibanda
T.Mawoyo
A.campbell
B.Taylor
A.Flower
G.Flower
S.Williams
H.Streak
R.Price
J.Nyumbu
K.Jarvis

It's bit of mixture of old and new. Maybe not THE best XI but some of my favourite players. Vusi gets in becuase I love watching him bat, like everybody else, I wish he could become more consistent. Been a fan of Mawoyo, since his epic 163* against Pakistan. Surely he is the best opener we have currently for test cicket?
Most of the others are self explanitory, though I've included John Nyumbu, as I was really impressed with his test debut. 5 for against the best test side in the world. He also played with a smile on his face. I would definitely stick with him!
