Fort Victoria (Masvingo), August 16 1890. I've never been able to track down the precise location / name of a ground - I suspect that, that far back, it was just a randomly cleared patch of land...

I do in fact know the exact location, but it would have been too easy to find if it was on my history page :P
I'll give you a clue - the letter "P" is quite prominent.

I'd take a stab at Providential Pass, then - location where the Pioneer Column reportedly founded Fort Vic when they arrived there.

I believe he's a former civil servant (back in the days when Zim cricket was generally amateur), and it was just done in the normal course of his work. It's an interesting little bit of trivia, though...
