Both teams will be apprehensive, but I think we are slightly more vulnerable mentally. We'd better not let Ireland get on top early, otherwise it could get ugly.

Yeah i watched the game and yes the Afghanis did play some terrible shots and the pitch played its part but i think Mushy was smart with his bowling changes and field placements. Even though he didn't have slips and close in fielders he still attacked with his bowling changes and the Bangladeshi's took the game away from them before the Afghanis could turn it into a contest, which is totally different to what happened in the Asia cup. Bangladesh didn't really go for the kill or put pressure on the Afghanis which left the match in the balance for too long which in turn led to the result of Afghanistan winning .....

The key to beating the underdogs is to take the game out of reach for them as soon as possible because the longer the game goes the tighter it gets and the underdogs grow in confidence and the favourites start to get tense and mistakes start to happen e.g. 2007 WC Zim v Ireland .....

I cant ever remember an underdog smashing their more fancied opponents they usually win in a tight contest .....

Mushy usually follows the script. Almost always. He'll try tomorrow what he tried yesterday, no matter what transpires today. That being said, I didn't think his bowling changes were all that great. Remember bowlers only bowl 4 overs max, so it might look like he's "changing" his bowlers but in reality they've used up their quota, lol.

I actually didn't think his ploy in the Asia Cup was that bad actually, and I am aware I'm in the minorty among BD fans. AFG were 90-5 after 30 overs or so. He kept the ring packed until the 40th over and I think that was a good move because a) the same tactic got us 5 cheap top order wickets b) some lower order resistance is to be expected and finally c) them taking 100+ off the final 10 overs without losing a wicket was NOT expected. We lost the game due to poor death over bowling - a chronic problem and feeble and idiotic batting. Sure we should have only had a target around 200, but 250 should have been chased no excuse. Sure Tamim and Shakib were out, and with Gazi being injured we were playing only 10 men effectively, but we should have beaten an Associate. But then again, thats why we're ranked where we are.

Anyways, it should be a cracker of a contest today. I'm excited to see the new ground and pitch as well as to see if Ireland can book a place in the main round. Would be a terrific middle finger to the ICC who's continually scheming to cut the Associates (and BD and ZIM) out of world events as best they can.

Nothing to do with today's match, but the Dutch have brought in Tom Cooper at the last moment when he became available -- they needed to find someone with an injury, and the duly did. Here's what the injured player, Gruijters, had to say:

Gruijters had made his allegations through a filmed statement, posted on YouTube. "I would have played in the Dutch cricket team had it not been for the fact that the Dutch coaching staff decided to bend the rules, act against the spirit of cricket and basically cheat," he said. "Let me give you the facts.

"Fact number one: on Thursday the 13th of March, Tom Cooper became unexpectedly available for the Dutch team after narrowly missing out on the Sheffield Shield final. Tom Cooper is probably the best batsman eligible to play for the Netherlands.

"Fact two: on the same day some teammates and I had talked about Tom's availability. We all agreed that no one was injured so it would be impossible for Tom Cooper to play.

"Fact three: the next morning, the 14th of March, the coaching staff called me to their room. They told me that I would be in the first XI had Tom Cooper not been available. 'We need someone to be injured,' they said. 'We need you to have a scan so that we can get the ICC's approval.'

"Fact four: I was forced and bullied into having a scan. The scan showed I have a bad back. No surprise there. I have had a bad back for years, just like others have had bad shoulders and bad knees. Like all sportsmen, I have learned to deal with the limitations and the pain. In fact, my back is better than it has been in a while. I think I am in the best form possible for this tournament."

I guess it's all well for the ICC, just like Zim sending overage kids to the U-19s WC.
