Zimbabwe "A" Squad Announced
Re: Zimbabwe "A" Squad Announced
The fact that Williams proclaimed never to set foot in Bangladesh after the pay wrangles with one of their domestic teams may not have gone unnoticed by zim selectors

Re: Zimbabwe "A" Squad Announced
I think picking Williams in that squad would have been an insult.
In terms of balancing the squad between youngsters and national team players in need of some time in the middle, the selectors have opted for a lot of experience amongst batsmen and less experience amongst bowlers. The are only two young batsmen on each leg of the tour -- the one area where the need is greatest. I'm glad Chari and Kaia made the squad, but I don't understand why the latter (a valuable limited overs all-rounder) is sent home after the four-dayers. And where is Kevin Kasuza???

And it probably wouldn't help the complexion of the squad. At the moment it's a good mix because there's enough experience that it's not like throwing the entire team to the wolves, but not so much experience that developmental players are missing out.
Experienced: Mawoyo, Vermeulen, Waller
Emerging: Chakabva, Masakadza, Mutombodzi, Maruma, Mutumbami, Chinouya
Development: Chari, Jongwe, Kaia, Nyumbu, Mugochi, Tiripano
That's a pretty good balance. Hopefully we see some of those emerging players really stand up on this tour. It would be disappointing if we went down to the Bangladeshi spinners with only Mawoyo putting up any resistance for example. If someone like Chakabva or Mutumbami could get amongst the runs that would be a real positive though.

I'm just guessing here but would think Moor must be thinking he's not wanted.

Would he have left his Irish club side for this A Tour ??

I doubt it. I think he has even said that he is looking to pay provincial cricket, etc in Ireland. My guess is that he is unavailable. Just as Nathan Waller is unavailable.jaybro wrote:Googly wrote:I'm just guessing here but would think Moor must be thinking he's not wanted.

Re: Zimbabwe "A" Squad Announced
It's series like this that I think we miss players like Stuart Matskinyeri and guys like Gavin Ewing or Terry Duffin. When they were all playing frachise cricket the national side was doing quite well, and there was probably no way they would have got in. But A tours would have been ideal.
Good squad. Would have liked to have seen Mushangwe in there but over all I'm pleased with it. It looks to me like the selectors are starting to choose on merit, which is excellent.
Can anyone give some insight into Alistair Campbell ?? I saw he was in the IPL commentary box. Anybody know if he's still part of ZC ?

Definitely a well balanced squad, Mushangwe's non-selection is my only disappointment too.

I hear he is on the outskirts of ZC speculation says he is "consulting" for a few years(similar to what some CEOs will be doing as they keep their jobs...doing less for more- is controlling a franchise deal with an Indian phone company in Zim- phones are called Karbonn- the word is that it'll be better to send your gardener with a message than bother with a Karbonn!?Can anyone give some insight into Alistair Campbell ??
