[Match Thread] Ireland v Zimbabwe (World Cup Pool B)
Re: [Match Thread] Ireland v Zimbabwe (World Cup Pool B)
Looking forward to this match. Personally haven't watched any cricket for more than a year (save for watching my teammates play from the pavilion ) partly due to the fact that ZTV wasn't screening the CWC. I'm more hopeful for a win against Bangladesh than Ireland and as said before, we need to get this one for pride's sake.

My apologises. I was thinking of the recent T20 as well. I don't think I've ever seen Zimbabwe beat Ireland.aydee wrote:Do they??brmtaylor.com admin wrote:
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a rivalry though because unfortunately it's always pretty one sided in their favour when we play Ireland... I think it's a mental thing; because the Irish don't give a damn when they play us they bully us around like Piet Rinke against a Canadian 2nd XI.
I'm pretty sure Zim's ODI record vs Ireland is P5 W3 T1 L1...

Pretty excited about this game, although I'm rooting for IRE here.
Always root for associates except when they play against BD or if they have no homegrown players like UAE or Hong Kong. But I'll root for anyone against India and Pakistan.
IMO, strong associates like Ireland and Afghanistan (even Scotland and UAE have been impressive at the WC) can only be good for BD and ZIM. We get the opportunity for more fixtures as well as the chance to pick up wins and points. Having a good 6 teams towards the bottom of the rung to compete with to mimic the top 5/6 is essential to the progress of all sides. I think not being able to play regular tests against Zim stunted BD's development from 2006-2010. I don't think its a coincidence that BD has begun to compete in Tests shortly after Zim returned to Test status.
As for this game, its a very even contest. Zimbabwe are slightly ahead skillwise, Ireland well ahead in belief and psyche. Zim have the slightly better batting, Ireland has much better spinners, Zim have much better seamers. Overall slim advantage to the Irish, IMO...60-40.
Very close according to sky betting...Zim are 8:11 favorites here.

Pumped for this one, I can only watch the first innings since it's my best mates engagement party so hopefully we put in a good bowling performance ......
