Re: [Match Thread] Ireland v Zimbabwe (World Cup Pool B)
The thing is though, Ireland may have won, but they still nearly failed to defend 331, and against a lesser test nation at that. They may have some enterprising batters but they have nowhere near enough bowlers to succeed in test cricket. Mooney is spent after 3 overs and his pace hovers between 70-75Mph, and Soresnon and O'Brian are average bowlers at best.
I watched the highlights and not one of the pricks clapped Taylor or shook his hand when he scored a ton. Honest to god, arrogant, and Porerfield can suck duck for all I care, one of the cockiest blokes in the side. God I would have loved to have beaten them.

Calmed down a little but boy i'm still fuming over that Williams dismissal, we were well and truly robbed.
And then when Mupariwa hit those boundaries I thought we were going to do it...but then in typical Zimbabwean style, we bottled it.
The commentators were giving BT a lot of praise, someone even compared him to Houghton. Someone on twitter also said Taylor holds a british passport?? If that's true then he'll most likely be off after this WC (please sign for Kent BT!)

It is interesting. While Williams' catch might NOT be out, Gary Wilson WAS DEFINITELY not out. I would say that the umpiring errors evened out at the end.
Mate, Ireland have genuine quicks in their squad. I have no idea why they are not playing them though. And stop banging on about how arrogant the Irish are. It is not as if our lads are not cocky when we win.sloandog wrote:The thing is though, Ireland may have won, but they still nearly failed to defend 331, and against a lesser test nation at that. No our lads are humble and they appreciate a good player, a good team and a good win. If you go back to the UAE game Chigumbura spoke very highly of their opponents bowling and batting, as did Sean Williams when he went up for the man of the match award. The Irish on the other hand didn't show any courtesy towards any of our players, not least Brendan Taylor at the end, who actually spoke highly of Ireland himself, even though he was dying inside as he knew they'd been robbed. When Porterfield walked past him, Taylor looked at him and game him like a humble in defeat kinda look where as P just walked past him and looked straight towards Hussain. I understand that the Irish have a chip on their shoulder regarding Zimbabwe, the whole test status debate and the next ICC WC format, but today it was very obvious in the way the celebrated and the way they showed now appreciation for Taylor when he scored a fantastic hundred (which should have been a man of the match moment).
Peter Chase is over rated. I watched him play against Nottingham for Durham last summer and he was all over the place, had some pace yes, but no control what so ever. Craig Young is another over rated anomaly, everyone raving that he has pace and bounce when in actual fact he bowls between 78-83Mph max. He certainly didn't impress me when he turned out for Sussex lasts summer.

This loss is so disappointing I don't even know what to say.

Both Ireland and Afghanistan have extremely arrogant and cocky players. Actually same can be said of Bangladesh [Tamim: Vitori and Jarvis are ordinary, Shakib: If the banana peel falls in the rubbish bin Afghanistan will be 80 all out, it fell outside, Shakib: We can still beat ZIM 4-1 (after losing the first ODI), Mushfiq: We will target India's weak bowling attack]. However, thats why I like all 3 of these teams - well I like BD cuz my parents are from there, but I think this cockiness brings added juice to the game, which would otherwise be boring.sloandog wrote:samedwards wrote: And stop banging on about how arrogant the Irish are. When AFG beat us in the Asia Cup - minus Shakib, Tamim, Mashrafe - we were all gutted. Yet another in a long list of losses to Associates. But captain Nabi was quite smug about it saying "Yeah, we dropped all those catches to give Bangladesh a chance!" I welcomed those comments. AFG won fair and square, when you win, you can talk all the shit that you want. I told the whining BD fans to suck it up and wait till you beat them.
2 weeks later, we met AFG in the WT20 opener. This time we had Shakib, Tamim, Mashrafe. AFG were shot the fuck out for 72, and before they even bowled a ball, Tamim had to stop marking his guard and file a complaint with Billy Bowden about all the shit talking from the Afghans. Bowden was pissed and told the AFG keeper, Mohammad Shehzad to stuff a burka in his mouth. BD won by 9 wickets with like 10 overs to spare, with Shakib hitting a 6 to end it. And the haters criticized Shakib for hitting a 6 when a single would have won the game.
Before the world cup, Nabi again started talking shit. AFG have better seamers (fair argument, actually), AFG have better batters (Nabi was high on opium when he said that), BD are better in the field and in spin bowling. Again, lost by 105 runs.
But I do welcome that bravado. Makes the game more interesting. Losses burn more, but wins feel so much better. Its a true rivalry.
Ireland have claimed that BD and ZIM don't play them due to fear of losing - and Ireland are correct. They have backed their "arrogance" on the field, something the Afghans have only done somewhat. Ireland now have a better W/L record against top 8 sides in world cups than BD even. They are being marginalized by the ICC. I think they can be excused for their behavior. This was a HUGE game for them.
And although their seam attack is rubbish, I wouldn't count them out at future Test level just yet. Zimbabwe's attack isn't much quicker and they're doing well at Test level. The Irish have that fighting spirit that Zimbabwe have and that will allow them to compete at least at the level of BD/ZIM/WI if not better. WI have plenty of pace, yet they are a shitty Test side.

Would it be the end of the world if Taylor played county cricket? Look at Elton chigumbira. He played county with northants and still turned out for Zimbabwe in the tri series vs India and Sri Lanka
Re: [Match Thread] Ireland v Zimbabwe (World Cup Pool B)
What a sickening loss. There was a clear touch on the boundary. Was so bleak yesterday.
The Irish players in all honesty do seem very arrogant ! K. o Brian and Porterfield in particular. I dont like Ireland at all but will support them in this WC from here on a bit because of the hope that ICC CEO fool wakes up from his dreamland and doesnt shelve the next WC.
Oh well...looks like ill be backing our neighbours now. Even though theyl blow it in the quarters or semi.
