This says he will join as a kolpak player.

Really bad news if true!

Notts already have overseas players signed, so I think this would have to be a Kolpak deal, which would rule him out of playing for Zim... However, if he was retiring, and throwing his lot in with county cricket, then I don't see why they would be suggesting that this is some kind of short term deal. Taylor is obviously good enough to command a multi-year contract, if he so desired.

It looks as if they may (may...) be trying to find a loophole in the Kolpak system. In other words, he won't play for Zim for the duration of a short term deal, when there may have not been any games anyway.

Fingers crossed he is not gone. So clearly Zim's best player, it would be a terrible blow to the game.

After checking their other signings i agree it must be a Kolpak deal.

How disappointing.

I dont think i understand the Kolpak ruling. My understanding is that it entitles a person to the same rights as an EU national. It doesnt state that they cant play for their national country?

Am i right? If someone wants to explain it in layman terms?

If BT is lost to ZC, then it is without doubt the worst thing that could happen to the side and is definitely not a sign of any progression that we all thought was going to happen under Whatmore. You can't lose your test captain, especially as their is no one who can replace him.

ZC did not take their media team to the world cup so its so hard to know what is going on.

Exactly, an EU national would not be able to represent Zimbabwe...

However, many (du Plessis, Rudolph) have taken Kolpak contracts, and then later returned to international cricket once their Kolpak deal had finished. Also, I don't think that this aspect of the regulation has been challenged in court, as I feel if it was, there is a decent chance that it would rule in favour of a player who would want to play county and international cricket. Obviously ECB don't want that, as it would mean that every single SA cricketer (and Zimbabweans, Jamaicans and various others) would be able to play county cricket as non-overseas players.

Yes he has signed.
Its been known and withheld for a while actually.

To be a kolpak dont you have to have british citizenship?
Im not sure thats definitely the case with BT.

Secondly, ive never understood why players cant sign short term (even week to week) contracts to get around the kolpak deal.
He could commit 6 minths to Notts then be a free agent for the next 6 months.
Think what SBW does to box in the off season or what benji marshall tries to do when he was at the top of his game with the wests tigers and wanted to play jap rugby in the off season.
