Malcolm Lake making FC debut

Post by aydee »

About to play for Oxford MCCU (effectively Oxford University) vs Worcestershire in a pre-season friendly. He's opened the bowling and batted 5 for them in a couple of one-day warm up games.

What this means for his cricketing future? Your guess is as good as mine...

If he's good enough to play for Oxford University then he's definitely good enough to bloody play for Mashonaland...
Another missed opportunity by ZC and/or the Eagles selectors.

More needs to be done to try and retain our good U19 players and get them into the franchise sides.

To be fair... If he is playing for Oxford Uni, he was probably AT Oxford Uni, and therefore not available to play in Zimbabwe...

Does anyone know if it is his 1st or 2nd year at Uni in the UK? Presumably the earliest he could be available for any kind of Zim cricket would be after his degree is finished. (Could... There is every chance that he is not in the slightest bit interested in doing so...)

I meant a few years ago when he came out of the U19 set up or while he was still in it, but yes you're right the horse has bolted now.

He may actually be at Oxford Brookes - the Oxford MCCU is a combined team...

Bit of a random question but why do Zimbabweans with the name 'Malcolm' get given the nickname 'Maru'?

MB Lake 10 1 43 2 4.30 45 (3nb)
56.4 to Gidman, bowled 245/5
60.3 to Cox, lbw 263/6
MB Lake b D'Oliveira 0 11 2 0 0 0.00
MB Lake lbw b Shantry 4 14 11 0 0 36.36
It's hard to cast a positive light on those batting figures, but if Querl's exploits any indication then Lake's bowling performance would be the equivalent of about 10-3-14-6 in the Logan Cup :(
