424. Three famous English institutions of learning. Connect them to a former Zimbabwean Test cricketer (and his family).

Andy Whittall.

1st photo is Rugby school - apparently, his grand father was captain of their rugby team before emigrating to Africa
2nd photo is Trinity College in Cambridge - where he was a student
3rd photo is Tonbridge School - where he works as a teacher
Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).

Absolutely. The grandfather was James William Whittall, born in Turkey around 1900 who preferred the African wildlife to his family's business in Turkey (times were also a-changing after WW I) and emigrated to Rhodesia.

The Whittalls' family background keeps intruiging me. Wealthy English merchants based in Smyrna (today Izmir) from the 1820s onwards, the various members of the family also formed the backbone of the local cricket community, and Guy and Andy's great-grandfather went hunting with Frederick Selous, albeit not in Africa but in Turkey.

I wonder if any other Oxbridge cricketers ever played for Zimbabwe? (Plenty played for Rhodesia.) Malcolm Lake could be the next one if he ever does come back.

Ranchod and Traicos are the best quiz questions to emerge out of Zimbabwean Cricket :)

Steve Elworthy, Sir Alan Haselhurst and Giles Clarke. Steve Elworthy was born in Bulawayo.

426. Yet to break in regularly into the playing XIs of FC and List A structures, this young man has been touted for a bright future. Who is he?
