I know it's an unpopular view, but when Campbell and Viljoen got on board we had a period of on and off field success. For a short period in 2010 and 2011, cricket in Zimbabwe had an air of credibility about it. More guys like them in positions of power is a good thing, I think.
I would tend to agree with this. As you say, Campbell was wildly unpopular on these boards, and I never really worked out why... At the very least, having an ex-test skipper about did lend a sheen of respectability for the international audience...

Campbell and Viljoen got in at the right time and made some money. Will be interesting to see if they stick around now that the money has dried up completely.

The biggest issue is how can this situation be turned around? Even if the ICC give us some money that will run out quickly and then what? With Mugabe and the Zanoids in power for another four years or so the country is really in a bad situation. I have no idea how anyone can vote for a party that has brought nothing to this country other than misery and destruction for the last 15 years.

Those guy were not about the cricket, they were about the money. And made some undesirable alliances for the sake of filthy lucres sake. People were willing to put their heads in the sand when it came to Campbell and how he milked the situation for his own benefit.

When I read on cricinfo in 2009 that AC was getting back into the fold, I almost fainted at the thought of an ex Zim legend being part of the set up. And then Streak returned, and then Flower, but AC always seemed to be on the periphery, and not well liked by the players like Heath Streak and Grant Flower were/are.

Having ex players as admins or business men or anything outside a coaching role is disaster.

BRMTAYLOR you should know this yourself just by looking at Australian sport.

Doubt they were busted, but obviously it was clear what was happening, everybody looking out for their own interests. Its a tangled web of manipulation, exploitation, corruption and extortion, under the table deals you name it its a movie!

Understatment! Cambell is no different than the hustlers who hung around at XIMEX mall, he just doesnt wear the gold chains, and sagging jeans and hes white off course but he would give those cats at XIMEX a good run for their money.

I had taken some leave from the forums after returning from zim cos what i was hearing at zim cricket was so depressing, i was just tooo tired to even comment. I forget sometimes that this a forum and most people are merely speculating, and most of the speculation is based on HOPE.

The coming of AC,Flower,Streak had nothing to do with real progress, though it looked good on the surface for a short while. Thats what it was supposed to do. To create a certain perception.

I hope over the next few years we get a few books coming out but who is brave enough? Cos the ZC story runs deep.

I hear you Bayhaus, when it comes to taking a break. I was once a regular contributor to newzimbabwe.com, and I got tired of banging my head against the wall. That being said, we tend to be a more civil bunch here, and when we talk cricket, it's actually quite good!

back to the subject, it would be fun if the ICC effectively imposed an exterior administrator of their choice to manage ZC. He/she would effectively have to rebuild from scratch, and would have to wear a bullet-proof vest, but could only do a better job than the current bunch.

Such a take-over would probably cause such frothing and explosions as to make the 4th of July fireworks seem like a village fair :D

As I have said in the past, perhaps the complete financial collapse of ZC might be a good thing long term. Nothing makes Zanoids scuttle away faster than empty bank accounts.

But what then? As soon as cricket would be up and running again the same people would be back.
