ICC should just make it mandatory that the third world countries’ boards are not entitled to be paid a single cent. If you want to be a board member be independently wealthy (and not from a prior looting) and have some proper credentials in cricket administration or business.
These provincial boards of ours have to go. We play cricket in Bulawayo and Harare basically, the rest is just smoke and mirrors. We can just have one guy overseeing cricket in the other places. Cricket can effectively be run in this country by three people, everyone else needs to be a worker. We need a few good guys on the ground, not attending bullshit monthly board meetings to decide how they can eat. I would like to see a handful of development coaches who’s job is to identify a small handful of young cricketers each and their progress should be assessed monthly by the head coach. No progress and the coach gets the bullet. We need quality not quantity. We need direct engagement with the few schools that still play and they all need to be on the same page, we need to be playing more than a dozen games a year at schoolboy level. We need to resuscitate cricket in the good schools first where there’s money and facilities.
DEB needs to urgently look at our club cricket. They need to be independent of the whims of some moron at head office. They need their own grounds and whilst they’re currently unable to be financially independent that should be a medium term goal. At present if ZC don’t provide a cricket ball then a club game doesn’t go ahead, that’s how far we have fallen. Let’s think about that for a minute- we’re trying to compete internationally but we can’t play a club game if the teams don’t get given a ball. The players need transport money to get to a club facility that they’re not a member of in order to play. That’s a sad state of affairs.
Maybe DEB’s appointment will attract some corporate interest? A good portion of this needs to be directed at the club stuff which is a mess. Let’s see..

I have no idea, perhaps mid 60’s?
Hopefully we’ll see John Ward back in the mix as a ZC media guy. If these new guys get the nod from ICC and look like they have some real authority you’re going to see a lot of stuff coming out the woodwork. The fence sitters are quiet at the moment, but they will be very anxious to prove their new loyalties if the new crew bed themselves in.
The one problem I do see is that it’s such a charged environment that they will constantly be seeking SRC assurance of this and that and there’s the risk of undue influence and involvement from them. If they were given carte blanche to do as they please there are going to be some very nervous folk out there followed by disgruntlement on a grand scale. Nobody’s nose is clean and there will be some singing birds in exchange for immunity
Pick the guys worth saving and guarantee them immunity in exchange for incriminating evidence
You’ll see some proper sweating.

Interesting times ahead then. John Ward is actually now employed an a part time basis by Zimbabwe, which is good news for him. I know he was ousted by certain individuals but the fact he's been brought back slowly shows a step in the right direction, and he's said that himself. Perhaps there's an active desire in the backdrop of all this to get things back on track? Who knows.

Who was the guy with the dreadlocks who's been shut out, by the way? I asked a contact about him and he said he's got absolutely no clue on cricket, and his 'sacking' is a step in the right direction.

Where's Kirsty Coventry in all this? Has she had any baring on it?

I think you mean Vumi Moyo?
Coventry is on maternity leave apparently. I don’t see her getting involved, her last tweet is about the Olympics ffs, she needs to resign, clueless and useless.

Wish I could share the same enthusiasm as you guys. Got some inside scoop that the ICC is not going to let SRC get away with this. Hopefully it’s the wrong info but not looking like this may be the way to get things back on track. I hope there is a plan B from the SRC and they haven’t gone in guns blazing without a backup plan.

I’m not sure where Kirsty fits in all this but for all we know she may have been the one to get all this started.

I stand corrected on DEB’s age. I think he may be in his 70’s.
Shortleg- ya everyone is waiting for a statement from ICC or these new blokes. There’s a deafening silence. I just find it hard to believe SRC have acted without prior clearance, it will have been a major blunder if they have.

I assume you know DEB quite well, or know of him quite well.
Do you know when he left ZC?

The most baffling thing is why the ICC would not like this. They stand to lose nothing by a new board coming in. Leaving the old board in there just goes to show that they don't care about cricket in Zimbabwe. Proof after proof is provided that ZC has been corrupt for a while and that change is essential, and they have never done anything about it, and now if they suspend Zim, they are basically doing the wrong thing for cricket.

I hate when sport bodies think they are above all the laws of countries and so on. One would think the likes of DEB and Ahmed would know how ICC operate especially with regards to this rule about government interference.

If Shortlegs scoop is true, then this forum could very well turn in to a pure memories forum and Zim Cricket will definitely be in the leagues of Kenya/Uganda and co

If memory serves me correctly he resigned prematurely in 2002 or 3 and Chingoka took over. Family reasons were cited. I don’t think he had long to go in his tenure anyway and there was no way he was going to win another term, there was huge pressure by then to make some big changes. I wish there was a chronological sequence of events somewhere because I’ve forgotten. It was about 2 years into Chingoka’s term that the “white walkers” stood down. I’m trying to find stuff now.
