Re: Afghanistan Tour of Zimbabwe Thread
Mawosa/ZC confirmed raza not playing the test will open the slot for Campbell

Re: Afghanistan Tour of Zimbabwe Thread
Curran and Kaitano were essentially a swap for the injured Clive. One or both have to take their chances.
I'd like to think Curran gets some additional rope because we've never seen him before at this level and he's for sure put both hands up. What an extraordinary run of form he's hopefully still in.
So they get their shot essentially by default. Not sure what happens when Clive has finished his rehab and if these two have been mediocre. I presume he's back in and they persevere with him. He should have to do a stint in franchise and make runs. That's the name of the game unless you're one of the guns.

I see Zolsky is now saying Musekiwa and Campbell have different roles so there's no comparison. All of a sudden he's decided Campbell is a no 4 batsman.
He's only recently gone to 4 in franchise with pretty good results. But he wouldn't bat at 4 in the national side.
He could have stayed where he was but he's put his hand up to go up the order, which is not too difficult in that batting line up. More of these middle/lower order national guys should be doing this.
It's ZC's biggest blunder and they'll never ever stop doing it.
How can you be middle/lower order in the national side and be middle/lower order in franchise?? Ffs just pick a better batsman from franchise to bat middle/lower order in the national side. It's not rocket science
I have mixed feelings about Musekiwa being given a hard time on social media. On the one hand he's in the squad so what should he care, but on the other it can't be nice hearing a barrage of shit about yourself. He's a good guy and nobody doubts he's doing his best. Give him his extended shot in all white ball games, don't hide him, this series and the next.
If he comes right all power to him, if he doesn't then go back to franchise, bat at 4 and make 10 hundreds in 2 years and put your hand up.. for the first legit time ...and hope someone else hasn't established themselves.

Re: Afghanistan Tour of Zimbabwe Thread
Its almost embarrassing the Welch is not in one of these squads. I would love to hear their justification on his continued none selection. He currently sits on 60*, having already scored two decent hundreds in FC this season, to go with his LA form. I think it's appalling. Absolutely appalling. I like NW as a player and he's a favourite of mine, but even if Mutumbami or Maruma had scored this many runs, I'd expect their name in a squad at least. The fans deserve to know why.
Ben Curran and Nick Welch should have been the first two names on that list. Congratulations to BC by the way, very well deserved

Re: Afghanistan Tour of Zimbabwe Thread
The why is the 2023/24 season, in which his FC career average briefly dropped below 20. Clearly he's a better player than that, but a year that poor takes more than half a year to undo.sloandog wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 2:40 pmIts almost embarrassing the Welch is not in one of these squads. If he gets another 100 today/tomorrow morning, theres absolutely no way they can overlook him for the Test squad.
I'm far more annoyed at his non-selection than I am Campbell's.

Re: Afghanistan Tour of Zimbabwe Thread
It's such a shame, because Welch has faced some serious bowlers in the UK.
By the way, for those slating and saying that these boys should be dominating club cricket are massively misinformed. This is one of the hardest places to bat against the new ball in the world I think, in terms of club cricket. I'm in the GMCL Prem and some of the pro's we've had in this league who have struggled to buy a run is laughable.
Jermaine Blackwood, Rudi Second, Aviwe Mgjima, Eddie Moore are but a few names who massively struggled last summer. Medium pace seamers who wobble it a bit and a gentle pace (in my eyes) are much harder to face than an out and out quick bowler on a fast fast deck.

Re: Afghanistan Tour of Zimbabwe Thread
I'm honestly hoping that Welch makes himself unignorable by scoring another ton. Sounds Jono Campbell is in the mix for the test series which is good news.
