Well playing an inter squad 3-day match as a warm-up for a India T20I series just about sums it up doesn’t it.
Re: ZC announce major restructure: Mhishi Committee
It's not really an inter-squad though. It's "mostly" u25's with the usual firm favorites thrown in. They should call it the 20-30 somethings so everyone is clear it's not u25.
And for sure with India 4 weeks off and the clear desperation for a favorite to put his hand up they should surely be playing T20's. We are so woeful at it that every game becomes important practice.
If they ever get around to appointing a coach will they present him with a 50 strong squad to have a look at? They love these giant meaningless squads, it's just bizarre.
Maybe it's one last look at guys in longer format before they pick the u25 something squad for UK? I don't think performance, commitment or ability matter much anyway. Just pick the favorites, guys who they hope will suddenly improve wildly in a few days and throw in a bit of nepotism and get on with it.
They're not serious about it, as usual. Just smoke and mirrors. Watching Chigumbura punt his guys and Mangongo his, with no due regard to who the best players are is just sad. Are they trying to improve cricket or just further their own ends?
The no national coach thing is just weird. Either someone has a prior commitment, which I doubt, or there are shortlisted guys with terms and conditions that they're struggling to agree upon. There's a good chance that nobody wants the job and we're going to be stuck with a B grade coach.

We are slowly decreasing the game length.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 9:40 amWell playing an inter squad 3-day match as a warm-up for a India T20I series just about sums it up doesn’t it.
We might be taking 20/20s seriously by 2030.

My only assumption at this point is that the coach they have lined up is involved in some capacity at the World Cup and they are waiting for that to finish.

Taibu?
If he still has God on his side he won't tow the line.
Being a Christian in Papua New Guinea is an interesting concept. The last Christian missionary to visit their shores they ate.
I'm willing to bet I'm right and it will be a South African.
Rand to USD rate makes it a cheap hire.
They will loot so much from the Bulagweru stadium its irrelevant, but good to see they're looking after their pennies.

Well that's not true now is it.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:57 amAh, I see we are back to discussing players and hoping some random guy plucked from nowhere or some 20 year old who hasn’t played cricket for three years will be our saviour and transform us into a World Cup winning side, whilst continuing to give the board a free pass.
You can change the players all you want, absolutely nothing will change in reality.
This thread is six months old and fuck all important has been done or achieved. Too busy pissing around in Vic Falls and Gweru.
Can’t wait for everyone to tip Myers to be the next Bradman only to be disappointed when he inevitably stagnates in our system like literaly 100% of our other similarly talented players. But hey, a couple of good 50’s from him and that will stop everyone complaining about the board for another year or two
Myers has been back and forth to zimbabwe over the past few years during his uni breaks and he scored 50s against Pakistan shaheens last summer and also a 200 and 150 In this year's logan cup.
OK it's the logan cup not county cricket but it takes a lot of mental fortitude to get these scores.
I'm not sure why you have woken up on the wrong side of bed today and yes the board is not perfect far far from perfect but you cannot doubt this kid has talent

When did I doubt he has talent?
The problem you constantly ignore is that we have / have had dozens of players with lots of talent.
They sadly never go on to achieve much. I wonder why? ….
Stop papering over the problems.

You are going to be disappointed in five years time when we are still ranked 13th in the world (maybe lower!) with nothing to shout about. Despite all your hotly tipped Starlets by then being senior members of the side.
