Zimbabwe Cricket Stats Quiz

Post by Jemisi »

Ok ZCF following the great tradition of the Photo Quiz we are going to start a Stats quiz and general stats discussion page to add another dimension to the forum.

I think the scoring system can match the Photo Quiz. Questioners, please update the scores when a correct answer is given.

When asking a question, please be specific about your statistical category to avoid confusion.

Also freely use this thread to discuss stats issues more deeply around the quiz questions as well.

I am going to take the liberty of importing cricket_22001's question about Logan Cup runs to get us started.

1. "Mutizwa has played 83 FC matches, 77 are Logan Cup. One test, one Zim 'A' match plus 4 for the Zimbabwe XI in the Inter-continental Cup make up his career. These figures do not include the current fixture. He is one of 6 players to have scored over 4000 runs in the Logan Cup & is currently in 3rd spot. (Trivia: Does anyone know the other 5?)"

Right, since I've pretty much answered it there, will try to start off by getting it correct if possible:

The other 5, I think are: Hamilton Masakadza, BRM Taylor, Vusi Sibanda, Stuart Matsikenyeri and Mark Vermeulen. Leaving out Dabengwa from my original list. Let us see if this one is correct...

I think BT is the one who's short of 4000 runs in the Logan Cup.

Hami, Vusi, Matsi, Vermeulen, Dabengwa.

Foreignfield has nailed it.
Brendan Taylor ended his days with 3856 runs. Mind you, he played only 40 games & averaged 62. Way better than the others.

Foreignfield opens up the scoring.

Here is an easy one to help some others open their accounts:-

2. What is the highest FC score made by a Zimbabwean/Rhodesian?

Sorry, Hick counts as an English international born in Zimbabwe. It is a few runs less than his 405*.

I'm sure i looked into this ages ago and was surprised to find it was, if memory serves, Guy Whittall with 247. I was only looking at after the Logan Cup was given First Class status though.

247 also seems very low, I can't even be sure that my search was done properly!

Not Whittall's 247 either. Go up a few.
