Re: 2023 World Cup Schedule release
Is Qualifier 1 the winner of the final, or the topper of the Super Sixes?
Re: 2023 World Cup Schedule release
Lets qualify first, forget this thread.
Re: 2023 World Cup Schedule release
If Zimbabwe Qualify, they will be Qualifier 2 , even if they win the Qualifiers. Unless Zimbabwe and someone other than Sri Lanka Qualify, in which case Zimbabwe will be Qualifier 1.pillowprocter wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:41 amIs Qualifier 1 the winner of the final, or the topper of the Super Sixes?
Basically what I mean is, they go by original seedings. Zimbabwe were seeded 4th for this tournament. Ireland, seeded 3rd are eliminated...

This may have already been discussed, but does anyone else find it ridiculous that only 10 teams are competing at CWC23? Hardly even seems like a world cup at all. It's like cricket is going backwards. I always enjoyed those smaller teams like Kenya and the Netherlands get on over on the big guns.

Yes certainly been discussed plenty over the years here - I think everybody on the forum agrees with you. Thankfully the 2027 edition will be 14 teams again. Progress, albeit small.Bulawayo Boy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 6:45 pmThis may have already been discussed, but does anyone else find it ridiculous that only 10 teams are competing at CWC23? Also even forgetting the number of teams for a moment, the current format of a 10-team round robin is dreadful and long and very boring. 2019 was an awful world cup with a huge amount of dead rubbers.
It's just all designed to maximise Indian TV revenue, that's all. That's all anyone making decisions cares about.
Re: 2023 World Cup Schedule release
In many ways I believe the 2007 format was the best as it meant each game was more important or carried more weight. If you’ve only got 3 group games you can’t really afford to drop more than one game.
As SZ said, in the 10-team format there are so many dead rubber games. Whilst the 14-team (2-group) format can also result in some dead rubbers, there are far less such matches.
I guess the one fallback of the 16-team (4-group) format is that if you fail to progress out of the group stage you only get 3 games. But there’s always the option of having a plate final as well which they do in the U19s WC.

That amount of competitiveness surely didn't please the BCCI as they got knocked out in the group stagejaybro wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:19 pmIn many ways I believe the 2007 format was the best as it meant each game was more important or carried more weight.
