I think Taylor may find it a bit hard to readjust to zim pitches (he should've played domestically for us last two seasons) as he is now used to English ones and may be in limbo, and I don't think Jarvis is going to make much difference to our attack, so i agree that he and BT arent going to make huge differences.
BUT, they will make a difference on some level and that may just be enough to qualify for the WC, win a couple of tests and entice other diaspora players into the fold, or stop them leaving.
So yes, it's damn well worth the red carpet treatment !!
OK so what about Jarvis' return...?

You paint the likes of Hami, Vusi, Chigs, Tinashe & Utseya as legends, one would think they all averaged 50 with the bat & 20 with the ball the way you carry on

You also have to ideally look at the players they can REASONABLY get back, in an effort to lure even more players.pariah wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2017 5:06 pmIf you're measuring the Pakistani from a player perspective, then ZC losing Jongwe, while not using Wellington, Panyangara and Chisoro under his watch, is a way bigger downside than the upside of the return of Taylor and Jarvis. Three of those four have genuine world class stats in formats, with the youngster Jongwe extremely impressive. So the ZC Pakistani has regressed in my view. Targetting Jarvis and Taylor, as opposed to Byrom and Welch(if they were within reach), is even more stupid business/sporting sense from him.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2017 4:47 pmHHM/pariah...surely, there is no way you can gloss over that fact. The ZC Pakistani in less than 6 months in charge has brough the two most talented ZIM players post-2004 back.
In my opinion targeting those two and Taylor foremost who is very nostalgic about his country was best rather than than the Welch's and Broms who might already be looking towards England (after seeing Balance and the Curran brothers do so); but once Taylor is in the bag then try and entice those future youngsters as well.
You cant always be critical all the time.
Re: OK so what about Jarvis' return...?
This is about money. 3-4 year contracts, cash upfront, and high salaries that they are getting. With the others you entice them over time, not in a rush because of their ages, plus you get to call the shots since they need the exposure for T20's big money. Look at Rashid and Nabi, and RTD(of Netherlands). There are many County cricekters with better al-format records than Taylor, but it's Taylor who gets bought in SA and BD Leagues. Too me bending over backwards for Taylor and Jarvis was a very poor move!Conant wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2017 4:10 pmYou also have to ideally look at the players they can REASONABLY get back, in an effort to lure even more players.pariah wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2017 5:06 pmIf you're measuring the Pakistani from a player perspective, then ZC losing Jongwe, while not using Wellington, Panyangara and Chisoro under his watch, is a way bigger downside than the upside of the return of Taylor and Jarvis. Re: OK so what about Jarvis' return...?
Taylor and Jarvis can make a noticeable difference right away, which is what we need more than anything else. Better performances from Zimbabwe lead to more international fixtures which will lead to more youngsters wanting to stick around or return to fight for a place.

Re: OK so what about Jarvis' return...?
Zimbabwe had plenty matches last year. This year they had very few fixtures against proper opposition. There was a reason to desperately bring them now. Bottom line is their excuse for WI will be they're still acclimatising. Guys have already made excuses for them for ZIM not qualifying for the CWC. In a nutshell, there's nothing noticeable and nothing right away.eugene wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2017 5:09 pmTaylor and Jarvis can make a noticeable difference right away, which is what we need more than anything else. Streak appointed Zimbabwe head coach

There will be nowhere to hide for Streak, Jarvis, Taylor and Taibu if they fail to qualify!Former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak has been appointed the country's head coach, succeeding Dav Whatmore who was sacked in June. Streak was preferred over former team-mate Andy Blignaut and South Africans Peter Kirsten and Justin Summons, who were all interviewed for the job last Wednesday.
Streak has been tasked with ensuring Zimbabwe qualify for the 2019 World Cup, and will be allowed to continue in his role as bowling coach for the Gujarat Lions in the IPL.
Re: OK so what about Jarvis' return...?
I can see you licking your lips already at the prospect of Zimbabwe not qualifying. Even with Taylor and Jarvis I am a bit nervous, whenever knockout games are involved anything can happen - one poor match and it is all over. Zimbabwe have little experience with knockout games as we don't typically make it out of the group stage.

I don't think you get the point. This matter will end up in parliament, and certainly at the SRC. Watch this space. The problem with sports fans is that they think things stop on the pitch and in sports forums, Accountability extends to parliament, and at time enquiries and being destroyed by the media.eugene wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2017 5:31 pmI can see you licking your lips already at the prospect of Zimbabwe not qualifying. Heath Streak's reputation will take a huge hit. More so if they fail, and bowling flops with Jarvis included(after firing Ntini too for the good of the team apparently).
Re: OK so what about Jarvis' return...?
Oh I know the government interferes in sports in South Africa and Zimbabwe, that is why the sporting teams are in such bad shape.
It is a credit to Streak that he wants to take on this poisoned chalice. Inevitably the politcians will be unhappy with something and haul him before some kangaroo court. Too bad the politicians never face any consequences for their own poor performance.
Since we don't have a football section on here I will put this here, I think an all-white Bafana Bafana would have more success than the current lot.
