You can open the economy up all you want, but no one is going to go to work (those who can work from home), no one is going to fly internationally, no one is going on vacation, no one is dining at fancy restaurants, and no one will be attending sporting events or concerts. So, there is no choice but to remain quarantined until a vaccine is found.

You fail to realize that the economy will build itself up again. But dead people won't be resurrected.

This is a good point. Polls showed that close to 70% prefer the lockdown. So chances are, they can say that everything is open, but not everyone will be going out, and so the economy will not flourish like they believe. All those protests and not one of them have made a valid reason for being against the shutdown. It's been things like, "I need a haircut" or "I want my Mcdonalds" or "I have a right to sunbathing if I want". Rest of the world is not opening up for anyone else. They are doing things in stages and even when they open up, they are only opening up for themselves and doing so with restrictions, not so Barbara can get a perm. Australia will not allow the US to travel here for example, so the longer they continue with their shambles, the longer they will lose out on the global economic income that they generate through tourism for example.

Trump supporters in America act without thought. They literally storm public buildings with guns and then pretend to be the good guys. One of the leaders of these protests has died from COVID, as well as a few followers. Natural selection at its best. Even with an inflated figure of 10% percent, it still means more than 70k people have died from COVID.

Fun Fact: The last recorded death by coconut was in 2013. There have been 205 Covid deaths in SA alone.

This conversation was interesting. I expected to see some bigotry (for lack of a better word) and such from certain individuals, but they were quite civil. Googly on the other hand turned in to a right wing fascist hell bent on the destruction of other humans for ones own personal gain. Then let the people who want to stay isolated remain that way for years, decades if they wish, no one will miss them. I'm pretty right wing but I like the fact the borders aren't flooded. And I think lockdowns (where it's workable) is sane and best for health.

Aus, NZ, the Baltic states are now safe zones because they squashed that shit out.keeping it like that can only be from border protection. Always a right wing stance I thought?

But I am getting exhausted on every issue being slotted into two teams.

Systemic racism goes far beyond slavery, which ended in 1865. All of the following are still occurring in 2020:

Systemic or institutionalized racism includes many things, some of which include but is certainly not limited to the following:

- Bank loans. Banks often charge Black (and Hispanic) lenders higher rates to borrow than whites with similar qualifications (credit scores, income, debt to income ratios). This makes home ownership especially difficult.

- Jobs. Applicants with "black sounding" names (eg JaMarcus or Tyesha) are less likely to get interviews than less qualified applicants with whiter sounding names. The bold part is essential.

- Criminal Justice. Blacks convicted of crimes are often punished disproportionately as compared to whites:

More anecdotally, A black coworker of mine is 60 years old and grew up in Newark, New Jersey (not usually considered one of the backward states). He told me that when he was a student, he had to ask his white friends to copy pages from their textbooks, because black students got the damaged old books with pages torn out.
