Re: Taylor Retirement Story
Yeah, with regards to the UAE game, worth noting that SIX of the UAE players that day are now banned for corruption. Plus Streak. Plus BT.Googly wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 7:57 pmArranging match fixing with a zim team has to be an interesting discussion. You're negotiating losing by more than we usually do. Maybe they thought Taylor was the only one actually remotely capable of making a difference.
The one match that keeps being brought up is that UAE disaster and that's the only one that I'm now fully confident never had any interference whatsoever. If any of our players were ever proven to have done anything poor in that game in particular it should be death. The lads played for their lives in that game.
If anybody thinks Streak and Taylor were the only people ever approached by betting syndicates they're dreaming. There will be people sitting very quietly, saying- there but for the grace of God go I.
That match will have been investigated very thoroughly many times as part of all these ICC investigations, and nothing about that game has ever come out. It's probably the single most investigated game in the history of the sport at this point. There's no way anything untoward happened that day.

This just in.
Maruma now claiming his international average of less than ten was spot fixing and that he’s actually a good batsman but his average of 7 is due to Indian bookies making him bank.

Re: Taylor Retirement Story
There's many questions to be asked and answered needed. ZC obviously knew of the issues and still selected him and even made him captain, so they are not completely blameless. It's clear our current system is not viable as the longer we go without proper structure and finance, the more susceptible we will be to bookies who can offer a quick buck.
BT is completely at fault for not realising how obvious this was and going ahead with it, but I really hope he gets the help he deserves and comes out of it on the other side for better.
ICC needs to do so much more. We have had 3 incidents of potential match fixing resulting in bans, and 1 incident that was addressed immediately. It's clear that Zim is a hot bed for certain fixers, and the fact that we are a poorly run system will continue to make it so.
It is being better addressed and people are talking more about it hence why it gets more air time. You do not get to compare and then determine who should have more mental pain than the other. Like BT said, the players were not paid for 6 months. Not sure why everyone keeps bringing up the 20k payment when THEY WERE NOT GETTING A CENT.

This. Melhuli and Larry are not here to provide balance. They make it seem like they do, but in essence they are ZC mouthpieces who will push their agenda to no end. A viable business model does not work on a pay as you play system. We are an International test team.
That's not to say that your grandfather or any other person in the war did not suffer with mental health issues. Your take however on mental health is terrible and insensitive, but I guess you don't care much about sensitivity or feeling.Bulawayo Boy wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 6:27 pmAppreciate your diplomacy secretzimbo, but this mental health crutch is sickening these days. My grandfather was flying in a bomber over Europe before he was 20! That's mental stress! Not getting paid 20k a month in a country that's starving.

It's incredibly sad that BT put himself in this position. As i stated before I have written a 5k word essay on the brilliance of Taylor as a cricketer but there was always this essence of immaturity throughout all of my research. He appeared to regularly be culpable to making pretty rash decisions, particularly off the field. This however for me does not detract from the fact that he is Zimbabwe's greatest ever white ball player barr none, i hope he gets the help he needs with regards to his apparent drug issues.
With regards to the T20 competition being advertised. I think that personally it's a sign of how much he cared for Zimbabwe Cricket's future. When we look through rose tinted glasses and want to believe something we can be easily fooled, i'm certainly guilty of this. So while it was deffo a dumb decision in hindsight I think the thought was in the right place.
P.s. Just gonna say something pretty dumb which I have no basis for but just want to ponder.
Could the fact that Williams was attempting to retire at around the same time as BT suggest that he has some demons too beneath the surface?
Just an fyi I'm a massive Willo fan and genuinely wouldn't want this to be the case nor believe it to be.

Has anyone seen Mr Hamilton Masakadza in the past three months? Curiously silent for a previously media loving Director of Cricket.
That will all come out one day….

Disappointing news. I hope the ICC has a real plan to root out fixing.
It's apparent why BT seemed so off.focus the last year of his career.
