Who the fuck is Justin Sammons? And this Dion Ebrahim guy was such a shit batter. He put me to sleep whenever he played.

What shit appointments. Expected as not many would have shown interest.

Since when did the quality of the player impact their ability as a coach?

Ebrahim was recently part of the New Zealand ODI and T20 coaching setup. Clearly well thought of as a coach.

Doing some digging on Ebrahim. He was Otago's Head Coach for a while before resigning in March. Rumour was that it was partly because they did not renew his wife's contract who plays for their ladies side

Sammons is such a left-field pick he's basically in Botswana.

Let's give them a chance. Not the coaches or big names we hoped for but proof is in the results and the man management of players like Williams.
We shall see

I don’t mind Dion being involved. I know his playing career success was limited but he’s a nice guy, one of our own, and has a decent coaching record since. As an Assistant he fits the bill.

But the head coach choice is bizarre. I’ve literally never heard of him in my life. It’s a big stretch for any of us to believe a guy with no head coaching experience at the top level will do any better than Dave or any of the other top level coaches we have had before. Let’s face it, even if we hired an exceptionally renowned coach, our aim is to try and stay ranked around 10th and scrape into the world cups. That’s pretty much where we are, and the best we can realistically hope for within the next decade with the current board and system. Anyone hoping for more than that is deluded. And that’s with a good experienced coach!!!!
With a guy who has never coached at this level it is an enormous risk.
We are basically saying Mr Houghton, who was universally respected, and had an enormously long experienced CV at the top level and knew every facet of Zimbabwean cricket inside out, was not good enough. So here’s some random guy from some province in South Africa who nobody has heard of - surely he will do better!!!!
It’s nonsensical.
His target is no doubt to try and win the odd match occasionally against a team like the Netherlands. Maybe.
That’s the height of the ambition being shown here.
Considering our system, he may well struggle even to do that.
Good luck to the guy.

Oh and they’ve appointed Chigumbura U19 coach with assistants Norbert Manyande and Paul Adams.

Zimbabwe has appointed South African Justin Sammons as its new cricket coach, with his fellow countryman Paul Adams joining as bowling coach.

Sammons is a former batting coach of his country's national team, the Proteas.

Former Proteas spinner Adams was recommended by Sammons. Adams replaces Englishman Steve Kirby, who left the role after Dave Houghton resigned as Zimbabwe's head coach last year following the country's failure to qualify for the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Dion Ebrahim, a former Zimbabwe batsman, becomes Sammons' assistant coach.

Ebrahim has previously been in New Zealand's set up as a consultant.

Norbert Manyande, an ex-Zimbabwean first-class cricketer, is the batting coach.

Who is the team performance analyst? 😂😂😂😂.

I will keep you guessing on that one.

Stop posting incorrect information. Manyande and Adam’s are only working with the u19’s, not the senior team.

Read the thread above.

With ZCs track record, did we honestly expect that there would be a list of big names lining up for the role? I doubt it very much. If a list came out and it had big names and quality on it, then sure, but I highly doubt it.

This guy clearly has a track record as a coach and has been coaching for some time, so he is not a complete unknown. I think also, not many international names would consider moving to Zim.

What is important his how much control he gets, and how much say. If he looks to shake things up and drop certain players, yet ZC intervene, that is a problem. Hopefully with him and Dions batting expertise, it means that Matsi gets the sack finally. That man has been stealing a living.

The more concerning one is the appointment of Elton. Once Utseya left, they just gave it to another mate. No doubt they want to groom him for the top job and is all part of their plan at some point.

Until the crooks at the top go, we won't see any significant changes that we want to see.

I think after the T20 WC failure, his role became untenable. It's unfortunate, but you can't fail twice like he did and expect to get away with it.
