Late 2024 White Ball Batting Stats

Post by aydee »

Now that those 4 short white ball series are over, time for a little look back.

The overall score was an 8-3 defeat. That said, 8-3 is probably somewhat flattering. The victories were narrow, and some of the defeats were eye-wateringly one sided. 10-1 or 11-0 would probably have been a better reflection of the balance of play across those 4 series.

The bowling held up relatively well, and at times was difficult to really judge, due to the very poor efforts with the bat.

The fact of the matter is that International Cricket is no joke whatsoever, and Zim don't really have a single player who is good enough to contribute on a regular basis. None of them are "good enough". However, that is not at all the same thing as saying that these are not the best players available. In my opinion they pretty much are.

Here are some combined stats from all 4 series:

Williams - 154 runs @ 26
Raza - 216 runs @ 22
Bennett - 257 runs @ 21
Ervine - 85 runs @ 17
Musekiwa - 57 runs @ 14
Marumani - 150 runs @ 13
Myers - 129 runs @ 12
Madande - 34 runs @ 11
Madhevere - 36 runs @ 9
Curran - 27 runs @ 9
Gumbie - 28 runs @ 7
Faraz - 11 runs @ 6

Can you let us know what series you are comparing ?

It’s important to not mix t20 with ODi and not to mix second tier nations with first.

Are you suggesting Afg and Pak are different tiers?

I would contend that they are not. If they are on paper, then we made Afg look first tier by a big margin.

Our batting stats are woeful. Too many excuses coming up when we do so poorly. This is not something new. Mukhulani, Bvute, Zolsky, whoever is in charge is overseeing the downfall of a once top cricketing nation. They are also doing it whilst smiling and ensuring that their boys club is looked after. They don't care about if Zim does well or not. They are simply holding on for the World Cup. I would actually not be surprised is one of Utseya or Chigumbura ends up taking on a coaching role for the World Cup. Anything to get their boys where they want. Once the WC is over and we are made to look like an Associate nation again, then they will probably go away as the money will start to dry up.

This is just these Pakistan and Afghanistan tours.

Yes, 2 different formats, but more or less the exact same players.

This is how everyone did with the bat over the last few weeks. Pretty painful reading.

Pakistan have just beaten SA 3-0 in the ODI's. They're helluva strong. Ponting identified Saim Ayub a while back as a superstar and he got that right.

I'd love to see an Afghanistan Pakistan series right now. I'm really not sure who my money would be on.

And an Afghanistan SA series.
We'd possibly do better against SA.

Thew really sad ones there are Marumani and Myers. They're really good players, and definitely deserve to be invested in. Dominate at domestic level, in spite of their youth and relative inexperience, but still so far short of Zim need, in order to be competitive.
