The main man- Aka Brendon Taylor

Post by jimbo »

So BRM Taylor is not in the centrally contracted list of players for the new season, Most of us know that. There seems to be a lot of murmurings of taylor quitting without actually getting this information from the horses mouth( Taylor!!)
The question is has taylor quit zim cricket? Are zim cricket getting in touch with the man with the aim being that he plays in the ODI's against Sri lanka?. Is their a general will to get in touch with him? Is it too late to be offered a contract now?

With a lot of emphasis on the board I think also Taylor should make some sort of statement to the press to clarify his position. Not so much interested in who is right and who is in the wrong more so the emphasis on taylors fans as he is a hero to a lot of people

To me it seems equally likely that this decision was to either the board or Taylor himself. He's threatened to quit on several occasions before, so it quite conceivable that it was entirely his decision not to sign a new contract. Equally, it is possible that ZC have taken an unnecessarily hard line, and not offered him a contract when in fact they should be looking to hang on to every single player they possibly can at the moment.

Whether or not he was offered a contract is anyone's guess... either way, I am quite sure (without any evidence mind you) that ZC would not have gone to much effort to try and retain him. He has been a pain in the boards neck for many years so to speak... maybe they were just as happy to leave him behind.

Stupid move though, you don't do that to your best players, especially when your pool of players is as low as Zimbabwe's is.

If I was to give some educated guesses, I would say:
The question is has taylor quit zim cricket?

No, he's just not a centrally contracted player. In the past this means you are still eligible for selection based on form.

I think ZC will probably try and get in touch with him at some point, probably after the Kenya tri-series.
Is it too late to be offered a contract now?
For 2008-09 it's too late.

I've got some interesting news regarding Brendan Taylor. Steven Price said on Cricinfo he heard from a source at ZC that Taylor "can come anytime and walk into the team".

I've been told by a different source the same thing, that there is a contract waiting for him.

I think that it is safe to say that coming from two different people there is probably a good chance it is true, in which case the ball is in Taylor's court, and he could be part of the 08-09 contracted players list if he wants to (which I thought was impossible, I thought the contracts were set in contract from year to year).

I think this is a relief somewhat. While it is still disappointing that Taylor hasn't signed a contract, at least it was of his own choosing and not because ZC tried to pull another "Robin Brown" on him. Hopefully once he has finished playing for Lashings he will return to Zimbabwe and re-join the squad.

I read that on the cricinfo site too. I didnt think ZC would be stupid enough to jettison a man with 12 ODI half centuries

Come back Taylor your Country needs you :)
