The home of Zimbabwean former players & they should return

Post by Detective RDS »

Zimbabwe was once a very strong side. But many of the players quit their international career early for different reasons and left the country. They should be brought back. The new Zimbabwen side is improving day by day.But you need experiernce players to perform in the highest level.Young players should learn enough by playing more and more first class matches.A stable team needs a solid mixture of youth and experience.Zimbabwe,in no doubt has the youth. They should prepare themselves to play in the test and ODI level. For this, they need the support and guide of experienced players.Infact,I want to see this former players to play in the Zimbabwe international cricket. Some of them have no recent news in anything related to cricket. These players should return in the Zimbabwe side to achieve the lost glories of Zimbabwe.I hope, they will be able to beat strong teams consistently in international cricket and should return in the test side also.

List of players:

1.Murray Goodwin
2.Grant Flower
3.Trevor Gripper
4.Craigh Wishart (RETIRED+Currently playing no cricket)
5.Barney Rogers
6.Charles Coventry
7.Andy Blignaut
8.Sean Ervine
9.Mark Vermuelen
10.Stuart Carlisle(Retired)
11.Terrence Duffin
12.Neil Ferreira.

WANT TO KNOW
I am a crazy fan of Cricket and like Zimbabwen Cricket very much.I have some questions in my mind for a long time. Please someone give the answer of the following questions:

1.Murray Goodwin is now 35 and has a fantastic first class and international cricket record. He looked very solid batsmen, young fielder in the ICL.I read that he left Zimbabwe in 2000 for his family reasons.Does he want to play for Zimbabwe again? Infact,I am a big fan of him.

2.What about Andy Blignaut! He last played first class cricket in 2006 and since then no news. What is he doing nowadays?

3.What about Barney Rogers? He is just 26 and can play for Zimbabwe for a long time.He is also out of frame.

4.Grant Flower is now 37 and is playing in English county cricket for Essex. He retired in 2004 at the age of 33!Has he got any desire to make an international return?

5.Brian Murphy is now 31.Last news of his was that he was attacked with hand injury and no play since 2003.What about him?

6.A right handed opening batsmen Trevor Gripper who is 31 is also hasnt got any recent news.Where is he and what is he doing?

7.Craigh Wishart,34 and Stuart Carlisle,36 both retired in 2005.What are they doing or hope of their intenational return?

hey welcome to the forum ill try to answer your questions

1Murry goodwin left Zimbabwe when he was around 30 to go and live austrlia as his wife is austrlian so he was retired long before the rebels and there is no hope of him coming back i am afraid

2.What about Andy Blignaut! He last played first class cricket in 2006 and since then no news. What is he doing nowadays?

2.andy blignaut came back in 2006 after a dispuite with the rebels to play a couple of series but fell out with the board over not being paid, it seems that the board have no intention of paying him, i believe he is in south africa

3.barney rogers let after not being offered a contract in 2006 and being told that he had no future in the zimbabwe team, his parents latter got attacked on there farm and beaten badly, i believe he is in Australia somewhere

4.grant flower was very outspoken against the board and was one the leading rebels, he defiantly will not come back as he has one more year with essex before retiring, but he does come back to Zimbabwe in the off season where he still has a house

5.Brian murphy left to go and pay cricket in south africa when he got sacked along with 14 other rebels by the board in 2004

6.trever grippers dad was one of the main critics of the board and was seen as a trouble maker, as far as i know he was sacked by the board with the other rebels and has not been seen since

7. wishart and carlise made a comeback in 2005 but were told that they were no longer needed by the board, carlise declared that he was fed up with politics and went to live in England

i hpe these answer your questions, if you need any more information i suggest you go to the cric info webiste which has up to date player profiles

Thanks Zimfan1.Thanks for ur answers. So,no chance of getting back 4 players Murray Goodwin,Grant Flower,Craig Wishart,Stuart Carlisle.Goodwin,Flower and Murphy is currently playing.Wishart quit himself from all forms of cricket,Carlisle is now in England as you said means both now retired but Carlisle does play club cricket as the captain of sunday 2nd 11 in Attenborough Cricket Club,I think he plays just for fun and his age of 36 is also a concern.Murphy quit Zimbabwe in 2003 and is playing for Swardeston Cricket Club in England.Zimbabwe should give contract to Andy Blignaut(by paying him) and Barney Rogers. Thanks again for ur information.

I know Zimfan1.But my chosen squads average age is 26,means they are still new in cricket and can play for a long time and have a bright future in Zimbabwe team.Infact,Zimbabwes current 15 members of the team are amoung the 32 members squad.

And amoung the other 17 players 2 of them Andy Blignaut and Mark Vermuelen can be back in the Zimbabwe side.Andy Blignaut must be paid his deserve salary as its really fair.Mark Vermuelen is now living in Zimbabwe and is the captain of 'Old Hararians'.Though he suffered for mental illness,he now looks okay and it will be great if 29 years old experienced Mark Vermeulen is back in the side.

From the except 15 players only 2 players Barney Rogers(probably he is in Australia or Zimbabwe) as well as Douglas Marillier isnt playing currently and both were not offered a contract back in 2005.Rogers is only 26 and Cricket authorities must change their outlook and should get him back.

I have picked Heath Streak who is 34 years old and he is only player in the 30 player squad who ages more than Raymond Price(Current eldest player of Zimbabwe and is 32).From the other 12 players Ervine,Ireland are playing English county cricket and qualifying for England.

The other 10 players(Taylor,Ferreira,Sims,Duffin,Higgins,Ebrahim,Ewwing,
Craig Ervine,Coventry,Panyangara) are engaged in playing club cricket in Eng,Nz,Sou and Aus.The 9 players are all under 30 years and left the country in recent times.Infact,Tinashe Panyangara wants to get himself back in the Zimbabwe side.

Zimbabwe has born the class players which is difficult and needs time,so why not using them.Zimfan1 is right. Its really difficult to get them back at this moment. But we love cricket and want to see competitive cricket played by Zimbabwe.Being a cricket lover and well wisher of Zimbabwe cricket,I hope that everything will be fine and cricketers and cricket board will have a good relationship amoung them.Fianally wish all the cricketers will be back and cricket fans will be able to watch them play for Zimbabwe again.

None of these players are going to return. Why would they? No money, no facilities, no coaches, and pack of thugs running ZC.

Zimbabwe cricket has been so seriously damaged it will never return to its former standards. Zimbabwe at best will be competitive with countries like Kenya in future years. The exodus of talented Zimbabweans in all areas of society has damged the country beyond belief, from which it will take a very long time to repair.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

The recent situation of Zimbabwe is very pathetic in the prospective of cricket. The list of the players exodus is increasing day by day.

Proper steps must be taken to get the players back.I know it is really not going to happen in recent time. The last 3 ODIs against Sri Lanka should have been won by Zimbabwe. But all of them they lost and lost by 5-0.It has showed their inexperience in this level.

I dont know what the ZC is doing right now.I have something to talk about team selection process too.The colour of the player shouldnt be the medium of picking players in the international side. The players must be picked by the medium of their recent performance and domestic record.

Its very sorrowful that ZC hasnt got any money in the fund, players are deprived of getting good facilities.Even the pitch in which ZIM-SL ODI series was played was under prepared.

National league is called of for the lack of players and money. So,from where the young players will come through and show their performance.Firstly the white international players were leaving the country. But now they are also joined by the domestic and young players like Brighton Mugochi,Tarisai Mahlunge,Ian Nicolson,Gary Ballance.

Following this things Zimbawe cricket future is in doubt. If this doesnt seem to stop,Zimbabwean cricket board must be changed.

Im not sure that tinash payangara does want to come back to zimbabwe at the moment. Not sure about his position as i think he was one of the players that the zim selectors tried to contact before the 2007 world cup squads were finalised. If he did come back im very sure that he would be an automatic selection
