No. There’s the odd one here and there. There’s just not enough left. I can’t remember the exact figure I came up with, but it’s around 3000- 4000 (max!) white school kids in Zim. There’s almost more black rhinos!
Of those half are girls, leaving about 1500 boys, more than half don’t play cricket, so there’s a max of about 500, but even that’s pushing it, I’d say 400. Of those I’d say there’s about 10 that are any good.
These government schools need to take a long hard look at themselves. The “good” ones are in a diabolical state.
We had fantastic government schools here and they’re all but obliterated.

It's just a shame we don't have one out and out superstar. Some Kohli like gun bat who will score big every time, or some Rabada like strike bowler who takes wickets for fun at an average of 20.

That’s what ZC are also praying for and on top of that that’s he’s a Shona or they might have to pay him more than $200 a month.
Kohli would get about $250 if he played here and he’d be expected to suck dick and be very grateful.
He’s a product of their system and careful management.
We’ve had a lot of potentially very good players slip through our fingers in the last few years.
I’ve just shown you the numbers, we can’t afford to lose a single one of them. Miraculously we’ve got a couple more decent youngsters coming through, but they won’t do anything with them and they will become, at best, struggling FC and internationals.

Yeah, our only hope is that one in a million talent who doesn't need much coaching - smart enough to learn on the job. And is highly patriotic and comes from a rich background (so doesn't need the money) to boot.

Why don't the independent clubs start developing players themselves? Through academies, etc.
From what you've described it sounds like HSC and to a lesser extent QSC hold all the cards.

None of the clubs offer any junior cricket. It’s first and sometimes second team only. At most they will give a promising youngster games in either of these two teams. The good kids don’t seem interested either, I can count on one hand the number of schoolboys that have expressed an interest in playing club cricket. This is one of the big big problems we face because this is the first step into men’s cricket and the standard is usually crap enough that they can cope.
This cricket is usually played on Sundays, so the kids don’t alsways want to play as they want to rest/play. If it was on Saturday they usually wouldn’t be available as there’s often something in at school. Having said that, there’s 6 weeks of school left and cricket is finished for the year.
