Re: Afghanistan Cricket / Taliban
Banks in AFG are out of money. Their economy is basically going to be reduced to bartering. This means ACB will just evaporate unless the ICC manages to fund them. But without an economy, there will be no sponsors or even domestic cricket. How will Afghanistan cricket cope???

Re: Afghanistan Cricket / Taliban
Not really. In fact arguably the opposite. Afghan cricket actually shares much of its roots with the Taliban, which was itself founded in large part by Pashtun refugees living and studying in Pakistan. It was under the Taliban that Afghanistan became an ICC member in the first place.

Re: Afghanistan Cricket / Taliban
While it is one thing to wonder whether the Taliban allow cricket or not, why should the international community not boycott them? How is this different from the boycott of SA for apartheid and the stance taken by Aus and Eng against Zim during the Mugabe era? In fact, shouldn't this be even more severe?
Of course, you might say why should the cricketers suffer. But they can continue to play various leagues around the world as individuals, but why should the international community recognize the national team while humanitarian crisis deepens in the country? Why is this decision at the mercy of Taliban and not the international community, as it rightly should be?

You are 200% right because you have a brain. The unfortunate truth is the world holds this part of the world to a lower standard though.CrimsonAvenger wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 4:13 pmWhile it is one thing to wonder whether the Taliban allow cricket or not, why should the international community not boycott them? They would not because as of now no country recognizes the Afghan government which would mean no country would recognize their passport - if they even issue passports. Just like you can't get into the US with a North Korean passport or get into Cuba with a US passport.CrimsonAvenger wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 4:13 pm

It wouldn't help the Afghan people at all. It would only punish the Afghan cricketers.

0%. Banning Afghan cricket would not magically improve the situation for ordinary Afghans and only punish Afghan cricketers.

I don't mind as long as this is the consistent view about all events across the world - like SA and apartheid as well, and any other similar scenarios. As long as there is consistency in response to such things.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 9:42 am0%. Re: Afghanistan Cricket / Taliban
Fair enough. But for consistency sake how can we not? Zim for example hasn’t played England since 2004 for this reason. Taliban worse than Mugabe.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 9:42 am0%.
