The funny thing about Zhuwao is that he is 5th on the runs list for Logan Cup (SR of 93)and was 3rd in the List A competition(SR of 145). 4th in the T10(SR of 189).
Something just tells me the system failed him. You can't coach what he has but you can coach some form of composure and a forward defence. They could honestly have found a way of utilising his abilities, especially in T20s. Give Cephas 8 games in a row like what happened with Shumba and you know at least 1 time he will tee off. 37 isn't too old for T20s.
In the domestic competitions he is coming good maybe once every 4 innings.

Would seem counter productive to move on from Ervine & Regis cause they won’t be around for the next World Cup, yet to bring back Cephas who is older.
Picking a 37-year old for a World Cup makes sense, because it’s the pinnacle and it’s about winning there and then. But bringing him back straight after a World Cup for a series v Ireland once again doesn’t make sense to me.
This is why I’d rather give Kamunhukamwe an extended run, because he’s a similar mould to Cephas. We’re all saying that Cephas was failed by the system, or that he should have been persisted with back when he was younger. Well we’re in the same situation with Kamunhukamwe imo.

K-long got a run in the side. He played 8 t20 matches for Zimbabwe and didn’t hit a 50 and had a strike rate of less than 100 with a poor average.
He buckled under pressure and found it difficult to rate the stroke. Just tried to bosh everything.
Also played 7 ODis with an average of 13.
Now it’s over a year since his last game so he could have possibly addressed some of his issues, but I really doubt it with the level of coaching in Zim.
Zhuwao was never given enough chances but it is definitely too late for him now. It’s all good bashing around bowlers in Zim but when you come up against real pace and turn then it’s a different story.

They’ve played pretty much the same amount of matches for Zimbabwe, so it again proves my point it would be better to give Kamunhukamwe an extended run in the side.CalZim wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 8:08 amK-long got a run in the side. You mentioned the step up in facing international pace, well he won’t get practice playing domestic cricket so there’s only one place he will.

Raza averaged 13 with a strike less of less than 100 in T20i until this year too. I think he has scored the same amount of runs this year as he had his whole T20i career. Things can change.

The good news is Marumani plays in a similar fashion as Cephas, but has at least double the amount of talent and ability. And he’s 17 years younger.
Bringing back Cephas would be a massive backwards step. There’s more chance of them recalling Chamu, although I hear he’s injured.

I’d rather we try new names than guys who have failed at international level over many years. Zhuwao wasn’t good enough. K-long wasn’t good enough. Chibhabha wasn’t good enough.
None of them are bad cricketers but struggled with the step up.
The next generation may of course struggle too but at least give them a try.

We have to be using this series as the first step towards the 2024 T20WC and the 2023 or even 2027WC.
No point picking many guys in their mid or late 30’s.

Even if Zimbabwe do not qualify for 2023 WC, it should not be looked upon as a massive failure. There are some really good teams out there who will miss out and I don't think there is any reason to take drastic measures.
Dave has done a fantastic job and yes, we should be looking at 2024 T20 WC and beyond. This Ireland series in a new year should be the start of a fresh beginning and making a team for the future. In the process if WCQ takes places then nothing like it, but even otherwise we gain long term.

Houghton might like a Zhuwayo type player. no fear see. The recklessness part is harder though
