Raza confirms he will play the ODIs.

So basically it’s exactly as expected when we discussed before Christmas

Happy with the squad. Shumba missing but I think that’s for the best. Happy Nyauchi was picked ahead of Chivanga but he won’t make my starting 11 in this format:

Madhevere
Ervine
Ballance
Marumani
Williams
Burl
Madande
Jongwe
Masakadza
Ngarava
Chatara

Bench
Munyonga
Nyauchi
Evans
Kaia

Without Raza we are light in the spin department so Masakadza will fill that gap. Jongwe v Evans is difficult but Evans being a poor fielder is too costly for t20s, Jongwe also adds variation on a slow Harare wicket.

Pretty strong squad, here are my key take aways

- Ervine still committed to t20s
- Ballance in
- Regis not selected
- Madande the new keeper
- Raza allowed to skip series
- Burl & Williams to miss early stages of BPL
- Blessing injured
- Marumani & Kaia in
- No Mavuta

The ODI squad will give us further clarity around what is doing with Regis, he definitely said he was still available for Zimbabwe, so it’s possible he was dropped from this format and will return for ODIs.

I think we can expect Wes to move into Raza’s spot as the spin bowling all-rounder batting at 5 with Ballance & Marumani moving into the top 3.

I haven’t seen much of Madande so I’m interested to see how he goes with both bat & gloves. Ideally for Zimbabwe it would be great if he can mould into a good finisher if he’s going to bat at 7 or 8 in the limited overs formats.

Ultimately ZC has also decided this series DOES matter as they’ve picked a very strong squad. Apart from Raza & Blessing it’s full strength.

It is a pretty good outcome.

Strengthened by Ballance, weakened without Raza, and missing Blessing to injury but with 3 decent seamers present.

The press release didn't specifically say Regis retired so I think he will still be involved. We will probably see him for the test matches. Not 100% sure about the ODIs but it could be possible

His ODI form has been pretty good in the last 4 years averaging over 30 across 27 matches, so if he is still available he still remains in the best XI.

I’m pretty sure Marumani will keep wicket in the first T20.

Madande more likely to get a chance in the ODIs or if Marumani is terrible in the first match or something

Regis is hoping for residency over there. It sounds unlikely he will be back.
