Houghton has a long history and of success. He did wonders for our confidence in 2022.
However since then he has oversaw;
Not qualifying for the WC. We really should have beat Scotland on home turf.
The t20, with only Uganda and Namibia in the way, as mentioned.
Drilling that down.
Why select Wellington?
Why select Chatara?
And the biggest, why the fuck did Welly come in at 6?
I mean really what was he thinking.
I have seen Wellington bat a lot. He can hold a bat, but only in a hold his crease way. He has no real power hitting ability.
I genuinely think it would have been smarter to have Ngarava come in ahead of him, as he can clear the fence pretty easily.
Of course though, we still had batsmen to come, and it made sense they come in.
When you look at it like this, it is difficult to justify retaining him.
Despite people moaning here ‘who would want to coach Zimbabwe?’ Coaching a test side is an extremely privileged position to get.
A lot of coaches out there wanting a gig and there isn’t a huge amount of spots above coaching Zimbabwe.
IPL, top 5 countries, county, Sheffield shield. Maybe big bash. These are the only gigs on a higher level that comes to mind.
We have never really struggled to attract talent to the head coaching position from what I can see.
We either got great coaches (Whatmore, Houghton, Marsh, Streak etc) or made budget decisions (Mandingo, Waller, Curran etc).

Re: ZC Changes
I saw a post from Zolsky that stated DH had control of rhe selections. Frankly I doubt that. Why was Mutendira the Convener there if that was the case? Chigumbura was on holiday somewhere with Masakadza whilst the ship was burning, but in this modern era of comms they'd may as well have been at the ground. Only advantage would have been to see who really had a "niggle" and who didn't.
My view is some guys are so damaged mentally they fear the pressure when stakes are this high. You take a wc final pressure and times it by 10 to get what's at stake.

Re: ZC Changes
Surely this cricket committee has some decent brains to make reasonable decisions. Like DH at as director of cricket. The question would be then where do they move Hami?Googly wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 9:54 pmI get the Mawoza "leaked" information, but they must surely be interested/concerned where Adam Theo gets his scoops from.
SZ- this makes more sense. The cricket committee we discussed recently-
11.That the Cricket Committee be constituted as follows: Blessing Ngondo (Chairman), Hamilton Masakadza, Kenyon Ziehl, Russell Tiffin, Julia Chibhabha, Dave Houghton and Elton Chigumbura
If it were true and if Masakadza and Dave were to stick together (in itself an interesting question and presumably neither can vote) it would potentially be a hung vote with Ngondo being the decider. Would one have to suffer the indignity of leaving the room whilst the other voted?
This is smart politics removing oneself directly from what's bound to be a massively unpopular decision to sack DH and yet directly controlling the outcome.
As I have said before the top brass are now moving smarter. Who can blame them for cricket decisions when they have ex players, umpires etc filling up all those roles now? Smart on their part. Ex-players were in charge of the disaster, now fellow stakeholders who know their cricket got rid of them. They must also decide who is next. They are washing their hands
Re: ZC Changes
It also makes it easier to get rid of someone like Matsi without them actually do it. They will just be like your peers said you must go. Or even Hami
Re: ZC Changes
Ya kadza in at 6 was where the wheels came off for Dave. Ludicrous decision to promote him. Not like he’d even get a quick fire 20 off 6 or something.
Yes it’s a privilege to coach a test team but at what cost. Everyone on the circuit knows coaching Zim is a tough gig with all the outside influences on your job. It’s a pay day and nothing more, you’ll be chopped after your first failure and given no chance to build a team.

Re: ZC Changes
My point is there are 6 folk on the committee and 2 of them are the object of discussion and it would be naive to believe they're all independent thinkers.
If this is indeed what's happening. It's just smoke and mirrors, we all know this.
Re: ZC Changes
If DH becomes Dir of Cricket and Hammy gets fired I'll eat a live rat and film it for your viewing pleasure.

Re: ZC Changes
Why are people saying it’s a huge privilege to coach a test side like us?
We’ve played two Tests in three years….

Re: ZC Changes
Because it is. Huge privilege being head coach of any national side.
Covid was around for at least one of those years, nobody except scumbag England played tests in 2020.
