Finally Zimbabwe got suparb Opening pair

Post by chetanpatel1981 »

Very very happy.
Finally Zimbabwe have got one of the best opening pair in ODI. I hope Zimbabwe will get best opening pair in T20 also.

Opening pair has 2 centuries in the 3 match. The way the opener has shown temperament is really decent and its matching like top 8 teams.

Opener should spent more time on the crease and slow start would be fine. Team should utilise 50 overs completely. Up to now, in very less or rare cases in which we played up to 50 overs in the ODI.

Now, middle order should also have to spent time on crease like dravid, jayavardhane, smith, williamson, root etc in ODIs.

Bowling is decent. But spin dept is point of worry. Spinners must have to take wickets on the regular intervals and with keep control on the runrate of the oppositions

Now, other players should have learn from this. Playing fast is not the good option in ODIs.

Barl or tiripano should be considered as hard hitting all-rounder.

Very very happy . Congratulations Zimbabwe

Felt relevant to pull this up, noting our now gap in the opening space with Bennett in T20. Can someone PLEASE explain to me, objectively, why Matt Welch should/should not be our opener/keeper. Does he even keep at all? He certainly isn't at the moment for the Mountaineers?

Sick and fucking tired of a bunch of Indians advocating for this bloke purely because he's white, without any consideration as to whether he will fit in with the team or his stats to back it. WHO SOLVES OUR ISSUES?!

Matt Welch is a very good player beyond him jus being white. It's a pity he hasn't really backed the reasons why he should be selected because he isn't getting the opportunities to prove himself at FC level. He hardly keeps at all.

He's cussing the Indians and the whites in one sentence

He could watch a live stream, check some stats, read the forum, read some articles, ask any pro player in Zim, do some background and arrive at his own conclusions. Basically ask anyone other than Mutendira and Chigumbura

He should be thereabouts purely as a front line batsman, the keeping is a bonus and frees up another spot in any team he plays in.

If he was black he'd have been "Fast Tracked" and he'd have at least 30 caps by now and would probably have that spot locked down in white ball. Fact.

WHO SOLVES OUR ISSUES?
If only we could answer that.

To me this is it.
It’s not the fact Matt is not a staple of the team and his grist class stats are good, solid but not beating the door down.
However in a colourblind and neutral system, he would have been rotated in and given a go by now. Navayo had a go and what’s he ever done domestically? Lord Maru has played well domestically and gets parachuted in everytime.

When Matt starts to ton up a few times he will probably get a chance, but anyone else with keeping skills would have been fine a shot, it’s an open spot.

Its only open until Madande is back to full fitness. ZC seem to have all their faith in him really. Perhaps its the second keeping option that is the open. And Matt's batting would give him the advantage in selection. Thing is, he actually has to be keeping at Mountaineers which he hasnt been doing of late.

Ya Mandande they like very much. Again he's a decent player and he will get a long rope, in fact he's had one already. He's had a couple of good innings, but he's had a lot more very ordinary ones. Time will tell if he improves.
