I think Welch Jr will have to try and find a franchise next season that allows him to keep. I'm sure Welch Snr wants to find one that will allow him to captain. ZC will have to block them at all the franchises, obviously easy enough to do, but you have to question why.
Mountaineers will have to find two replacements that can contribute 30-40% of their runs and win them crucial games at key moments regularly. I'm guessing they're backing Spencer Magodo to do the job.

Mountaineers have been alternating their keeping between Gumbie and Magodo, both whose batting contributions havent been much at all. They should seriously be looking at giving Welch Jr a chance with the gloves which would open a batting spot for a proper batter if they can have one. Most of the keepers in our domestic cricket have been very ordinary with the bat this season.

Regis could have really kept on playing.

His been to good for his league here in Aus.

Gee didnt Murray really choose a different life.
I’m aware there were some expectations of him but still.

Clive to come straight back in.

If ZC wanted to make franchise really interesting, entertaining and relevant and not just a dodgy league that they control all aspects of they should allow Rangers to become the 6th franchise. Make them provide their own funding, so it doesn't cost them a cent. They could further reduce salaries to the existing franchises and actually save money. There are plenty of sponsors that would willingly jump at funding a well run team, they'd have to turn sponsors away. They'd probably pay better (not a high bar), have an actual coaching staff that prepares the team properly and have unbiased selections. The problem would be turning dozens of cricketers away that wanted a living wage. They could probably rustle up a decent batting line up but would probably be short of a couple of seamers. They could easily come up with a batting line up like this, in no particular order-

Campell, Welch, Ballance, Taylor, Welch, Higgins, Campbell, Evans, Ervine, Williams, Burl, Banks, Frost, Frost.

A better name would be the Misfits CC a team of guys that nobody really wants.

Im not including the handful of excellent black guys that would want to be a part of this because they'd be told the Chimurenga is ongoing. Well they have been told that already.

I think you're missing the point. They don't want him to be a keeper batsman. It will make life uncomfortable for Maru and Clive at some point.

He's not coming back no. But given the right circumstances I'm sure he could be talked into it. I reckon he'd love to play some cricket with a group of mates though.
He's coaching so it means he hasn't walked away from cricket entirely. He's also looking fit, strong and happy. It would imply his head is clear.

Is Ballance in Zim or the UK at the moment?

I get it... but they cant seriously think in that way, can they? Matt Welch can make the team solely as a batter. Wouldnt his keeping be a bonus.

He's in Zim, has been all along.

Ya logically he should keep, but who knows why they're chopping one leg out from under him. It's not correct. No disrespect to Magodo but he will never be in the same dept as MW. Gumbie as you said has also had a shit season.
Anyone can have a shit time of it, he's a good player and could potentially come back stronger, but in the meantime he should keep the red ball and MW should keep the white ball.

Mountaineers probably need to decide what they want to do next year, but I guarantee MW is looking for a white ball keeping role and he brings a lot to the table for any franchise.
