Gayle to play for tuskers

Post by Tom91 »

JOHANNESBURG Nov 21 (Reuters) - Former West Indi es captain Chris Gayle, involved in a protracted dispute with his national board, will play in Zimbabwe's domestic T20 competition at the end of November, officials said on Monday.
Gayle, 31, has not played for West Indies since a World Cup quarter-final in March and the board (WICB) issued a statement last month saying the batsman would be considered for West Indies selection again only if he retracted statements about the board and their officials.

The left-hander responded by asking the board to "state clearly" what he should apologise for.

Gayle will play for the Matabeleland Tuskers in the T20 tournament from Nov. 25 to Dec. 4.

"I am a cricketer and I want to play," Gayle said in a statement. "I would rather be playing for the West Indies but while that's not possible I want to use my time wisely, entertain some people and try to do some good."

A good signing for the tuskers.

Saying that His whole carribeAn bob Marley vibe as well as his talent would make him the biggest cricketing drawcard In the world from a marketing perspective for the Zimbabwean marketplace.

We've(Tuskers) got him lined up for next season.
:D
I reckon Zim's T20(and Zim domestic cricket is growing). The way I see it - with our compact schedule, beautiful Zim weather, tourist attractions combined with our primitive/adventurous feel, WE'LL be the most popular and probably the longest surviving domestic T20 competion in World Cricket!

I hope ZC have either have a limited contract for Dominus to run the thing, or they pay ZC a very handsome royalty to operate it. We need it to pay our boys and boost our structures. Those guys must be making money through this thing as evidenced by the increasing quality of the overseas signings.

Aren't Dominus and ZC the same group of people?

Are you kidding me? Tuskers are already favorites to win the tournament and now you throw in Gayle.
Gayle and Meth will make all the contests one sided.
I was hoping more for Gayle vs Meth because I am thinking Meth might get the better of Gayle.

What do you think?
Okay it is obvious that I have gone overboard with this Keegan Meth obsession.

I am not even in the same timezone as Keegan Meth. So dont worry.
From what I have seen he is a phenomenal player who can transform Zim cricket at the world stage. (Zim have not had such players since Flowers, Streak and Blignaut)

I was just messing with you there! I do agree, though, that Meth is a must in all formats and his continuous exclusion has been hurting us. I really hope he gets more game time in NZ.

his inclusions have too though ;)

If he turns out to be half of either flower then i'm for him ... but he'd have to be double Blignaut...
