T20 Team

Post by FlowerPower »

To select a test (or even an ODI) based on a couple of T20 knocks is a bit over the top. My disdain for the format aside, I think it is fun, and has its stars, its evidently not for everyone (Mawoyo, Jarvis), but its fun but should never be used as a yardstick for picking a Test team, or arguing a Test player's form. To ensure that this doesn't happen, and for the kicks of it, I have started a thread to allow fans of the format to pick (a) the tounament team thus far, and (b) the Zim T20 team based on this tournament (no potential this potential that, he looks cuter than him, or I like him better than him, or he is older than so and so)...just form players please.

To start the controversy I will go first...

Tournamanet Team:

1. Taylor 2. Gayle 3. Horton 4. Ballance 5. Matsikenyeri 6. Coventry/Wessels(wk) 7. Trego 8. S. Masakadza 9.Meth 10. Vitori 11. Muzhangwe

Zim Team:

1. Taylor 2. H. Masakadza 3. Matsikenyeri 4. Coventry(wk) 5. Ervine 6. Chigumbura 7. N. Waller 8.Meth 9. Muzhangwe/S. Masakadza 10.Price 11. Vitori

Ofcourse Ervine and Coventry didnt have much of a go (due to the foreign contingent, a worrying aspect of the tourney) but the few look ins they had they used...

Bring on the pelting tomatoes...
1. Mawoyo 2. Duffin 3. Sibanda 4. Taylor 5. Masakadza 6. Williams 7. Chakabva 8. Creamer 9. Jarvis 10. Rainsford 11. Mpofu

Looks good to me. Does Vusi miss out then? I am aware that you stated based on this tournament, but this creates an interesting scenario when we get to New Zealand. Who's gonna miss out for him?

And then also begs the question again: should Vusi have really been allowed to miss out on this premier domestic tourney? Why should he have been judged on different standards? It was only two weeks. After all Taylor stayed on

Get matsi out right away. Does not deserve a slot even in the Zim A side.

Given too many chances and throws them all away. I dont care if he played well tonight, too late mate.

I respect your view on Matsi, and no qualms from me. But that is MY side, and I will not take him off at your whim, by all means, as the thread said, give me YOUR line up.

PS its not only tonight he had a good knock that was his second 50, first was 73 vs the Rhinos...and oh there is a the 110* and 80* in the Pro 50...but hey if you don't want him there...that's your choice, just like I have chosen to include him... ;)

That view on Stuart is a bit unfair . I mean give the guy a break to perform means that he is putting hours in the nets and I think he should be given a chance. If its not the case then what it is the point of working hard?

1. Taylor 2. H. Masakadza 3. Matsikenyeri 4. Coventry(wk) 5. Ervine 6. Chigumbura 7. N. Waller 8.Meth 9. Muzhangwe/S. Masakadza 10.Price 11. Vitori
Based on what has happened in the tournament so far I'd say this is a fair team.
1. Taylor 2. Gayle 3. Horton 4. Ballance 5. Matsikenyeri 6. Coventry/Wessels(wk) 7. Trego 8. S. Masakadza 9.Meth 10. Vitori 11. Muzhangwe
I'd make onlyy one change to this one, Horton out and Wessels moves up to number 3 while Chopper keeps the number six position.
Vusi, Mawoyo, H.Masakadza, Taylor, Ervine, Williams, Mutumbami, S.Masakadza, Meth, Price, Jarvis

I'm not THAT keen on T20Is but I love T20 cricket. I watch all the IPL games and all the CT20 stuff too. I think this ZimT20 tourny is great too but I don't think the T20s in NZ should be in the selectors minds at all when they tour. It's been noted that due to financial constraints Zim will take a lean looking squad - I'd say that's a fair assumption. My hope is they give no-one (eg Coventry) a place based on T20 form...

Heard it on commentry. They have a squad of 20 players who will be trimmed based on this tournament during the next 2 weeks.
We can all guess as to who will be left out. Streak hinting Matsi and Muzhange could be in it(in the squad). Even Shingi might make the cut.
