So far as Makoni is concerned , This was a declaration of war against HIM. The timing was just terrible for hon Coltart as a mature lawyer and polition and elderly person he should have realised how this would pan out.

Also ZC gave their response and they maturely refused to comply. Makoni was representing himself and Hon Coltart should have not continued this in the media.

Wrong! They did not deny that there were other sports where selection committees exist. Makoni was speaking for cricket. Coltatr is the one who brought lawn bowls as an example of a sport with an educated, qualified and respected selector, who obliged. Triathlon, Cycling, Tennis, Darts, Badminton etc, will obviously be the others.

However, it still does not take away from makoni's argument that even though cricket is not the only sport affected, it is the only sport where black people have been liberated from blatant discrimination, so those gains should not be reversed.

Which black tennis player do you know beyond Byron, Wayne & Cara Black, plus Ulyett?

The likes of Genius Chidzikwe and Gwinyai Tongoona are the only blacks which come to my mind. I'm sure there are more, but the fact of the matter is apart from cricket, these are sports which have at most 4-6 people making up a team, and they have a very small base. A lot of these players from these other sports are not based in Zimbabwe.

Apart from national team players, cricket has 5 franchises, with about 20+ players each. There are also feeder clubs contributing the bulk of these fringe franchise players.

Cricket is a 15-20 year career, an industry, not a past-time like other sports, which have at most 2 or 3 notable figures in a generation making reasonable money professionally.Officials and administrators have got jobs as well.

You're right bayhaus, Makoni was representing himsself. ZC, like TZ have raised their concerns that if this is to go forward then certain things need to be discussed. But the bottom line is ZC - the organisation - rejected this.

CrimsonAvenger, you should be concerning yourself with why an illegally instituted directive should be effective at all!. That should be foremost in your arguments concerning this, nothing else! Chinamo's perceived maturity in response to an illegal document is irrelevant. We should be thankful to Makoni for making us aware of these racist intentions. Otherwise the media, and ultimately the masses, now their leaders would not have been made aware of this, and perhaps even ZC might not have been this diligent when preparing their response! Makoni is the bigger man here! ;)

People in the West have said, and continue to say Mandela was the big man, the mature one, compared to the likes of Chris Hani & Steve Biko, now black South Africans are killing fellow Africans, who are more educated, and want to share the 'wealth' they haven't recovered despite the 1994 farce. Guys like you and Coltart look at the enriched Ramaphosas, deployed by their benefactors to go and sound mature, meanwhile an entire country of uneducated locals is sitting on the greatest volcano about to erupt!

Thankfully, Chinamo recognises that further deliberations are needed. He did not go through a struggle, so you can't expect him to be as militant as Makoni. However, that doesn't represent a favourable difference in his maturity or disposition in comparison.

Allan Butcher (on FB) today:

''To all my cricket friends out there...teammates colleagues former opponents all over the world I'm sick at heart with whats going on in Zimbabawe cricket right now and hope you all know that i would never be party to selection according the colour of someones skin.....how could i look my kids in the eye if they thought i was capable of that!''

Another one walks away with a negative impression of the internal workings of Zim Cricket...
Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).

Yes Butcher! You're no racist, but you can you certainly scheme along with Taylor and call AC, in an effort to fraudulently outvote Makoni and overrule his final decision as the Convenor & Travelling Selector. He has records to prove it!

Thanks for your time. Go back to England and play the moral father. Some fatherly love you gave Utseya! If I were you I'd shut my mouth otherwise, Makoni will be sharing a lot more with us via the media, and you'll be exposed. Best stay quiet, and sail off under the radar! You're a little too old for what you're setting yourself up for.

Butcher is a good man, and a good coach. It is a shame to be losing someone of his experience. It is also a shame that someone who has been extremely positive about the country and its cricket during his stay looks set to leave entirely disillusioned.

I hope the players are able to give their best during the upcoming tour. As usual, the world over, when wastemen suits and adminstrators play their pathetic little games, who loses out? The players and the fans...
